The OREA Z1 takes OREA's low-bypass brewing philosophy to its logical next step: zero bypass. All brewing water is directed through the coffee bed rather than being able to travel around the filter, creating a highly controlled and repeatable extraction.

OREA developed the Z1 around a short brewing chamber, optimized bed depth, fast flow, effective airflow, and a thick thermally resistant TRITAN body. The result is intended to produce cups with clarity, sweetness, depth, and consistency while retaining relatively fast brew times.

A major part of the system is the included Melodrip. Instead of allowing a concentrated kettle stream to strongly agitate the coffee bed, the Melodrip diffuses the water into droplets. This reduces agitation and fines migration while still transferring heat efficiently.

The Z1 is also intentionally simple to use. OREA says the filter doesn't require pre-wetting, and the Melodrip means a gooseneck kettle isn't essential. After brewing, the brewer can be unscrewed, the coffee puck knocked out, and the components rinsed.
